This week has been extremely unusual. Normally in my profession we have people throw up every now and then because of impressions and such. But this week was just weird! I had two patients in a week throw up all over me.... it was not all that much fun! :) So my first patient comes in and we're sedating him so we can pull out a tooth. Well he goes into a panic attack and I ran for the garbage but was a little late and ended up having the bottom of my pants covered in throw up. After we finally excused him I ran and changed into new scrubs and completely cleaned my room from top to bottom about 50 times that day trying to get the smell out of my room. Then a couple days later, a little 7 year old kid, comes into my room and he is just certain that he's not going to let us do anything. So I stuck some topical in his mouth and he makes himself gag and starts screaming at the top of his lungs. I calm him down and then the doctor numbs him up and during the process he makes himself gag again and starts screaming at the top his his lungs again also... well this went on for about ten minutes. Finally his mom told him to stop because it wasn't going to get him anywhere. So thinking that he would behave I put the rubber dam on him and he starts making himself gag again and this time he threw up! So the doctor and I stop what we're doing and get the rubber dam off just as the kid sits up and throws up all over my legs. After he leaves I get stuck with cleaning up my entire room again and wishing more then anything that I could take a hot shower.
Then today while I was working on wisdom teeth, which is one of my most favorite procedures, I started to feel really light headed and my ears started ringing. So I had the other assistant come stand in my place while I sat down for five minutes. When I felt better I took my place again and within five minutes I was passing out again and I started to get my really bad stomach pains that are just baffling everyone as to their cause. I made it to our staff room just in time to sit down and black out for a few seconds. A couple of the girls came running in to see what was going on and they said I looked dead. They had never seen someone go as pale as I was. My arms and face and lips and everything had gone extremely white. So I was sent home early today.
So these past few days have been full of excitement at the dental office! I have so many funny and crazy stories from working where I do. I absolutely love it though!
